Postpartum Doula

A mother needs as much care and affection as her baby does. Many women feel that after the birth is over they are kind of forgotten now that the baby is here. This can be overwhelming and isolating for many, as well as causing a new mom (whether it’s her first or 7th she still becomes a new mother every time) to rush back into everyday life and the stressors that come along with that. The added stress of having a new baby to care for while still balancing her entire life is one of the leading causes of PPD and PPA. What can we do to help mothers in their postpartum transition time? The birth partner (if there is one) is educated on how to care for a postpartum mom appropriately in the immediate postpartum, having someone she is close to helping her regularly and consistently is crucial. In addition to this hiring a postpartum doula who is trained in helping mom with a smooth transition from pregnancy to complete healing after delivery has been shown to greatly improve the mother’s emotional and physical healing following the birth of her baby. Postpartum looks different with every baby therefore the time after every delivery always deserves respect, care, and compassion.
